Mother-isms
Let me just begin by saying there are not many things that are as sweet as your baby pulling away from nursing to just stare up and grin at you for long moments. And Wade has sparkly eyes, too, so it's extra special.
Sparkly eyes seen above.
However, this post is dedicated to my Mother.

The dear Pamela. If you know her, you know she is funny. Often unintentionally. I am currently in Cincinnati trying to be a helper to she and Katia as she goes through surgeries and healing/growth for a stable boned face. And Mom is keeping me immensely entertained.
Let's start with the drive here. 10 hours each day for 3 days in a row. I was driving at this particular incident and Katie was my co-pilot, Mom and Wade in the back. Katie must have been selecting the track on the CD or the radio or something like that. Mom was instructing her, because she was having a hard time getting the right thing. There is a bit of commotion as Katie just tries to push and push to get it right and I am watching her and me and Mom trying to instruct...I hear mom say something like "push it 2 times" but nothing is done so we regroup. Katie stops to listen to instruction and Mom says, "Ok push it once." Katie pushes it once. "Alright now push it twice." And as Mother is saying this I know exactly what is about to happen. So Katie pushes it 2 more times. To which Mother immediately says, "No! Why did you do that??" I am laughing and Katie has no idea what she has just done. It seems different written that it really was, but Mom meant push it again, the second time. Not two additional times. It was hilarious.

I felt like I watching an exercise between a family as a recreation therapist. Oh the ways of communication. One instruction understood 2 different ways, both make sense.
Mom is very loved by grandbaby #10. He just hears her and LAUGHS. He sees her and grins huge. He loves that Grandma Whick. See him admiring her...love this picture.
She was holding him the other day and in her sweetest voice says, "Well shall we go walk in the hell?" Not realizing what she had said I repeated to her and we had a good laugh. She meant hall, obviously.
(Please notice the red lanyard around Mom's neck. It's identification for being a guest at the Ronald McD house. She wears it everywhere, never takes it off for fear of taking it off and losing it. Makes me giggle as she wears it all through church, etc.)
Then there was last night.
2:30am (why do things keep happening to me at this time of the early morning??) a loud noise begins, making Wade immediately scream, making me immediately JUMP out of bed to rescue him. I am standing comforting Wade and plugging his ears, not awake at all, thinking "why is someone making that noise!?!?!?" Mom gives a mini scream and also jumps out of bed saying "That is the FIRE ALARM!" Not until she said that did I realize.
So Mom gets her jacket on and pokes her head out the door to see if other people are moving about then comes back in. The fire alarm stops. Mom is mumbling things like "why does this always happen", "there is no fire!". She is just bugged. But it was soooo funny. So then again there is a knock at the door and someone is saying, you need to evacuate. Mom mopes back in and wakes up Katie, who without her hearing aid has been dead asleep throughout, and we follow her out the door. We walked down the 2 flights of stairs and Mom has this scowl on her face the entire time and keeps making these rolling eye movements. I keep looking at her laughing...and we get to the floor to exit and people are coming back in. She asks if they got the clear, and they nod. So we head back up to our room with Mom's scowl and eye movements increased in intensity, commenting about the last time this happened....and gets back in bed.
I kept giggling as I laid in bed ready to nurse Wade and go back to sleep. She was so bothered, it was hilarious. Today we talked about it and she said that she thought she had calmed down and wondered why I kept looking at her and laughing. She realized this morning that she hadn't quite calmed down and must have been making a sour face.
It was so awesome.
P.s. This is our second fire alarm in the week we've been in Ohio. The first wasn't as bad because it was 8:30am, although we were in bed sleeping soundly! Both false alarms.
I love my Momma.
