Don't cha know.
Our road trip to P's roots was really fun. And funny. I can't help but laugh-especially when we're with the Kusilek fam-about their accent. The best thing is that every other sentence they say "Oh, yeah." But it's not O like Oreo, it's...I can't even type it. P and I just sat here for a full minute saying it over and over trying to figure out how we would spell it, or what word we could relate it to. But we can't.
Just think the mom on Bobby's world.
Anyway, it's awesome. Just let me know if you want an impression, I can't stop! It makes me giggle.
The drive was good; starting with lightening all across the sky through Nebraska. We arrived there at 230am sunday night, and left the next day about 1pm after a nice lunch with some friends from high school. We were in St Paul first and had a great time with Susan and Bob.
Here we are at Lake Calhoun, eating some fishes and gettin' ready for canoeing.
Off we go! It was a beautiful lake, and we stopped for a bit on land to chat. Loved it.
Lily pads, love them.
Through the tunnel...Suse was wearing my cowgirl hat. Pulls it off nicely, I'd say.
We went to the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis to see The Scottsboro Boys. Excellent, excellent talent those people had. Voices, tap dancing...loved that. The story was okay, it's a true story, a very sad story, but the play put a satirical spin on it and I didn't know how I felt about making something so horrible and serious into "funny."
One of the main guys, who had an incredible voice, took his shirt off at one point and we have never seen a man with such huge pecks. We couldn't stop looking. Haha!
(We'd like to note that our outfits were purchased earlier that day at a second hand store. Love the dress!)
Here we are at Nicaboyne Lake, Wisconsin with the Kusilek Fam for the official cabin weekend of the year. This is Gpa K's chair. It is gigantic and a bit ridiculous. He loves it, and you'll notice there is a step stool in front to help people get in.
We went fishing not long after arrival, and I haven't been fishing since Lake Anna in like 1997 with the Schnacks. ok I lie, I went once in NE for like 5 minutes. But it wasn't my forte, as you may see in my face. I just didn't like touching the fish, they were pokey.
P, totally in his element.
Next morning we went out on the lake in the kayak first thing. It was beautiful and still. We saw a bald eagle!
I taught the aunties California speed, and they were sold. They were good too, great competition. Nancy (right) was a speed DEMON at nuts! She is so fast I couldn't even do anything about it!
The 2 tournaments going on during the weekend were 1. cribbage and 2. bean bag toss. These are the pictures of the finals; Perris and cousin Brad vs. Uncle Jim and Aunt Shari (bro and sister of Dan). Perris and Brad proudly stepped up as champions.
Father and son, with a bit more fishing before we headed out.
In Iowa, right before the NE border we pull up at the gas station and here is this incredibly large station wagon parked on the side. I asked the gas attendant and she said it belonged to the mechanic who works there. It is registered and everything, he did it himself. The license plate said something about Dad's ride....how do you think the kids get in there??
We had a great time, so glad we could make it out this year!!
This weekend: Whicker Women Weekend Extravaganza
At least that's what P labeled it as on our google calendar. Description? Here's what he wrote:
"Much talk of babies, homemaking and cooking. Also including gasping, shreaking, high-pitched laughing, and probably a game of speed."
Amen to that.

Wow. That truck is hilarious...I mean station wagon...
ReplyDeleteGlad you guys are taking the opportunities to go see family, despite the distance. All in all that's all that really matters (k, that was a lot of "all's"!).
It was so fun to see you last week. Hope you're over your sickness, miss you already.
Love T
