adulthood=$
At the DMV today:
Me: Hi, I need to renew my registration.
Lady: Okay. [takes my old paper and does computer stuff]
Lady: Same address?
Me: No...[give new address]
Lady:[inputs information, prints a paper] Alright "one-sixty-seven twenty."
Me:[me processing in my head 1......67......20....]!!!!!!![insert shocked realization here] One HUNDRED sixty seven dollars??? [eyebrows now raised in the highest possible position]
Lady: yes. They just upped it $20.
Me: [I'm thinking, "Upped $20? that is NOT the reason for the shock factor. I mean, I was thinking maybe $40!"] You mean $167 EVERY YEAR???
Lady: Yes. [blank look]
I guess this is my welcome to adulthood wake up. I didn't really like it.

The crazy Dems in Wisconsin upped the registrations here too, but I think we're only up to $75 and you don't have to get any inspections.
ReplyDeleteBummer isn't it! Ours are about double that though...for 2 cars.
ReplyDeleteWow, you guys really need to live in TX. It's ~$55 per car per year. But I'm sure they get us in other taxes...like property taxes. Yes it is a wakeup call! Wait until you pay $50 for garbage and over $320 for electricity! The list gets longer and longer :) Gotta love it.
ReplyDeleteHi Ali! Yeah, I had the same shock when I registered my car for the first time this week. $650 for the whole thing! I was flabbergasted!
ReplyDeletewell, thanks to you i was reminded i needed to renew mine. (my thought process: ali and i got new cars at about the same time...i should look at my sticker. lo and behold...)
ReplyDeletei had to do safety and emissions this year. barf. i am poor.
